Canada has always has a place of honor in the storied history of Alpha Phi Alpha. Due to its proximity to the birthplace of Alpha, and its role in the history of blacks in North America, Toronto was the obvious place for the first seed of Alpha to be planted outside the United States.
The student community at the University of Toronto has always been at the center of the ongoing life of Alpha Phi Alpha in Canada. From the birth of Delta Chapter over Easter Weekend in 1908 to its later demise and the return of Alpha through the hard work of Brother Orlando Klass, Brother Nana Brown, Brother Philip August and Brother Ike Okafor in 1999. Brother Ikem Opara continued this legacy as the first initiate of Sigma Iota Chapter in Canada in the Fall of 2001.
The legacy continues...
